Volunteer! Become part of our Library Story!
As a library volunteer you will have an opportunity to connect with your community, provide valuable services, meet new people and spend time in a great environment! Volunteers for the Washington Free Public Library help enhance the quality of services and programs offered by library staff. Our volunteer program is designed to further the relationship between the library and the community it serves and to complement the efforts of paid library staff.
Here’s how to become a volunteer:
Download and fill out our Volunteer application (or come in and ask us for a paper application). Volunteers must be 13 years or older and anyone under the age of 18 years will need a parent’s signature on the application.
Youth volunteers MUST submit their application in person (applications submitted by parents or family members are not accepted) with a “real” signature from their parent, not a digital/typed signature. Adults may submit applications in person or email to admin@washington.lib.ia.us
While applications are always accepted, we may not always have positions available. We’ll advise you on whether we are currently accepting applications for the position you applied for when we receive your application.
If we have positions available, we’ll contact you to schedule an interview to talk more about how your skills and schedule match up with our needs. If we decide we’re a “match” you’ll complete a Volunteer Release and Waiver of Liability form and we’ll schedule you for orientation and training.
